FAQ

What is the difference between therapy/counseling and coaching?

- Therapists/counselors are licensed, trained professionals that help with serious mental health issues like addiction, trauma, chronic depression or anxiety, suicidal thoughts, or other mental health challenges.

- Therapists/counselors tend to focus on the past and present. They focus on "why" certain behavioral patterns occur.

- Therapists/counselors have rigorous standards for training, supervision, and practice, as governed by state or other jurisdictional licensing boards.

- Therapists/counselors can only see clients in the states they are licensed in.

- Coaching is primarily concerned with the present and future, not the past.  Coaching believes in looking at the here and now.

 - Coaching focuses on the present state and feelings to power new awareness that effects change, but it does not generally dig deeply into past events. Coaches work on "how" to work toward a goal.

 - Coaches are there to interrupt, mirror, reflect, and call the client forth to help them design actions that break the barriers to their own transformation.

- Coaching is not meant to go on forever.

- Coaches can coach anyone in the world.

How do I know if I need counseling or coaching?

Counseling helps you cope better day-to-day; coaching helps you take positive action. If you're feeling overwhelmed and are struggling to cope with everyday tasks, a counselor can help you find a way to cope. If, day-to-day, you're getting by OK but know you want to achieve more, a coach may be more suitable.

If you have any questions please contact me, I'd be happy help steer you in the right direction.

Can I pay per session and not sign up for a package?

Yes. I have an individual session rate listed on my packages tab.

Do I have to pay in full for the package I choose?

No. I have payment plan options.

Do I have to use my sessions in the package I choose within a certain time frame?

Yes. Once you start your first session I highly suggest you continue meeting weekly until your sessions are complete. The progression rate is much higher with consistency. In our contract it mentions if you miss or need to reschedule your appointment it must be rescheduled within that same week or you will forfeit your session.

Do you ever have promotions?

Yes. I occasionally run promotions and give out coupon codes. I will post it on my website if I am running a promotion; or feel free to ask anytime.

Can I add sessions onto an already bought package?

Yes. If you feel more sessions will be needed you can choose an add-on session when purchasing a package. Once your package is up and your sessions have been used you will have to either pay the individually paid coaching rate or purchase another package.

Do you work with people that don't have porn issues and just want general life coaching?

Yes. I can do general life coaching as well.

Do you work with people that just want relationship help, even if porn is not involved?

Yes.

Do I have to be LDS to meet with you?

No, you do not have to be LDS to meet with me. The majority of my clients I meet with are religious or LDS, but I can definitely work with people who aren't.

Testimonials

"Joel is incredibly kind and very patient with me and my scattered brain. He responded quickly to my messages and was more than willing to talk to me at times of the day when I needed help, that would normally be very inconvenient for other people. Even when my time was limited with our conversations, he patiently listened to my concerns, guided me to to extremely helpful resources, and had unique and encouraging advice that was specific to my needs. Joel is awesome!!"
